GUWAHATI, Sept 23: Assam Amateur Boxing Association (AABA) imposed life ban on nine office bearers of different District Associations for involving in anti organizational activities. The association also dissolved 7 District Amateur Boxing Association for the same reason.
Disclosing the news to the media the secretary of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association Hemanta Kalita today said, “An emergent General body meeting of the Assam Amateur Boxing Association was held in the city today and all the decisions on imposing ban and dissolve district association were taken in the meeting. However the boxers of the district association, which was dissolved today, would get the facilities to participate in the different competitions.”
Kalita alleged that all the officials, on whom life ban were imposed, indulged in some ant-organisational activities like hosting unofficial and unethical meeting under the banner of Indian Amateur Boxing federation which is a derecognized body. Earlier showcause notice was served to all of them but we didn’t receive any reply which forced us to take such steps.
The nine officials on whom the life ban was imposed today were Sanjib Handique (secretary, Golaghat District Amateur Boxing Association), Durga Prasad Jaiswal (President, Golaghat Amateur Boxing Association), Om Prakash Borah (Secretary, Jorhat Amateur Boxing Association), Tutu Phukan (Secretary, Sibasagar District Amateur Boxing Association and vice President, AABA), Rasadul Haque (President, Moran District Amateur Boxing Association and Vice President AABA), Bibul Hazarika, President, Titabor District Amateur Boxing Association), Debasish Baruah (Secretary, Titabor District Amateur Boxing Association), Diganta Nath (Secretary, Dergaon Amateur Boxing Association) and Tilok Deuri (Secretary, Charaideo District Amateur Boxing Associaiton).
Kalita also released the name of the District Amateur Boxing Association which was dissolved today. The Associations are: Golaghat District Amateur Boxing Association, Jorhat Amateur Boxing Association, Sibasagar District Amateur Boxing Association, Moran District Amateur Boxing Association, Titabor District Amateur Boxing Association, Dergaon Amateur Boxing Association and Charaideo Amateur Boxing Association.
Meanwhile Guwahati will host the next edition of the South Asian Boxing championship which will be held in December. Kalita added: they will now organize two international boxing meets in a gap of a month. It may be mentioned here that World Youth Women Boxing Championship will be held in Guwahati from November 19.
