Nigerian-born British world boxing heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has put an end to the ‘rift’ he had with fellow British boxer Amir Khan over an alleged affair with Khan’s wife Faryal.
Joshua was falsely accused by Khan of sleeping with Faryal after an apparently photoshopped picture of Joshua and Faryal was sent to the former welterweight champion.
Khan called out his estranged wife, with whom he is having a divorce, and Joshua on Twitter in a rant, moaning about their ‘betrayal’. But Joshua, first jokingly with a video of Shaggy’s 2000 pop hit It Wasn’t Me, debunked the allegations and advised the couple to sort themselves out without involving him.
However, on Friday, Faryal sought to clear the air with a long Twitter post which explained how Khan was misled.
She wrote: “I’ve been quiet for some time because myself I didn’t know what’s going on. “Everything that’s going on is not just right and a complete misunderstanding.
“The screenshots sent to Amir were fake and Amir thought Joshua and I were speaking…when we have never even met.
“Anger took the better of him and he tweeted away without even thinking there was absolutely no truth to it.
“It’s all cleared up with both teams now and again, there was NOTHING like that going on.
“Apologies for all this nonsense. Let’s get on with life now.”
Khan replied to the post accepting he was wrong, but not really apologising to Joshua.
He wrote: “@anthonyfjoshua glad all is cleared up and all lies. I got angry like any man would. No truth to it. Good to know. All the best.”
Even without a clear apology, Joshua replied Khan, rather tongue-in-cheek: “Apology accepted.”
Joshua is expected to announce a new opponent soon for his International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association world title defence after the retirement of Wladimir Klitschko, who he had defeated to claim the titles.
