ACCRA, GHANA – Isaac Dogboe is called the “Royal Storm.” Poor Javier Chacon got caught up in it on this night.
Fighting in front of his Ghana kinsmen at Bukom Boxing Arena, Dogboe turned in his career best, battering Chacon until the Argentinean refused to come out of his corner at the start of the seventh.
Team Chacon claimed a hand injury but it appeared as if each of his body parts hurt after the one-sided pasting. Dogboe promised to defend his WBO International super bantamweight belt in impressive fashion. He took charge from the opening bell, unloading a variety of power punches to his slower foe’s head and ribs.
Chacon (25-4-1, 7 KO’s), proved his toughness, if anything. The 36-year-old, two-time world title challenger had little to offer in return. The sixth was particularly brutal and after a minute-long conversation, Chacon wisely bowed out.
Dogboe (17-0,11 KO’s), is now in line to meet WBO World super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno. The two sparred when Dogboe was merely 4-0 but much has changed for the Ghanaian since then.
None other than Azumah Nelson himself has appointed Isaac as the country’s best fighter although lightweight contender Richard Commey might take umbrage to that statement. What can’t be disputed is that Dogboe is ready for the step up in class and proved it on this night.
