NEWLY announced Fiji Amateur Boxing Association (FABA) board members Bulitani Matatwakilai, Usman Ali, Abikash Kumar, Dr Warren Thaggard and Aminiasi Vulaono, aims to restore Fiji Boxing’s former glory.
Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou announced the new FABA board members at the ministry’s headquarters in Suva yesterday. FABA chairman and board member, Matatawakilai said one of their main goals would be to restore and develop Fiji amateur boxing.
“There are a lot of changes to be made within the governance of boxing. We would love to compete with the 7s game and to put Fiji on the world map,” Matatawakilai said.
During the announcement, Tuitubou said the selection was made through a thorough and transparent process.
“We appreciate their willingness to contribute to the growth of boxing in the country,” Tuitubou said.
“Boxing was a popular sport in Fiji, but has lost its way recently. The re-establishment of the Boxing Commission of Fiji sets the stage for a well-run organisation.”
He said the establishment of the commission would promote boxing and the regulatory framework within.
Then he added this would protect the health and well being of boxers.
