Ghana’s Rafael Mensah (31-0, 23 KO’s) will fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight world title. The WBA has ordered champion Albert Machado (19-0, 16 KO’s) from Puerto Rico to defend his belt against Mensah, the No. 2 rated WBA super featherweight.
A statement by the WBA reads:
In the Super Featherweight category, the WBA Championships Committee asked the team behind Puerto Rican Alberto Machado (19-0, 16 KO’s), current champion of the division, to negotiate a fight with the Ghana Rafael Mensah (31-0, 23 KO’s), second best in the ranking at 130 pounds.
The teams have 30 days to negotiate, starting from November 6. If they do not agree on a date for the fight, it will be called to a purse bid.
